Gedalya Folk Rock Rabbi, continues using his gift to shine a light on complex social issues with his latest release, Who Cares About Me. With this outing, Gedalya explores the homeless, a group that he said is far too easy to overlook. With the song, he wants to remind listeners that despite their situation, they are people too and deserve the same respect as any other person. “I wrote the song as a view of the homeless from an outsider’s perspective,” Gedalya said. “We all know they’re out there. Some of us walk past them every day. Yet we usually just ignore them, put them out of our mind, so we don’t have to struggle with our conscience.” But with the release, he hopes that listeners can imagine being in their position and gaining sympathy for their struggles. “Imagine being in that person’s battered shoes and ask yourself, ‘If that were me, wouldn’t I want someone to care?’ And I hope you’ll give that person a dollar, or whatever you can, so they’ll know they haven’t been forgotten.” The laid-back pop sound, combined with lyrics describing some of the more uncomfortable aspects of living a homeless life, creates a subtle and easy to listen to song, backed by a powerful message. Gedalya is best known for his folk-rock style and socially constructive lyrics. In that vein, he is also the founder and continues to operate A New Song USA a non-profit organization that showcases music that shares a positive message.
