From the recording Album 2022

I wrote this song about the homeless from an outsider’s perspective. We all know they’re out there. Some of us walk past them every day. Yet we usually just ignore them, put them out of our mind, so we don’t have to struggle with our conscience. Next time, I hope you’ll imagine yourself in that person’s battered shoes and ask yourself: If that were me, wouldn’t I want someone to care? And I hope you’ll give that person a dollar, or whatever you can, so they’ll know they haven’t been forgotten.

Lyrics

Who Cares About Me

Lunch time on Broadway where the hot dogs are gourmet
Watch the Wall Street Wolves eat their lives away
Sammy blows his saxophone with the air that’s in his soul
With the pennies he gets thrown he can butter up a roll

Who cares about me
Who cares about me
Another open hand in the land of the free
Who cares about me

Here comes the winter and we’re turning on the heat
Better build a fire if you’re sleeping on the street
Brenda built herself a home with a brand new cardboard box
Made herself a wooden comb and a pillow out of rocks

Who cares about me
Who cares about me
Another open hand in the land of the free
Who cares about me

Time for Thanksgiving and the turkey’s on the table
Justice is a fantasy kindness is a fable
Holly holds out her tin cup holds tight to memories
When her words can’t say enough her eyes are begging please

Who cares about me
Who cares about me
Another open hand in the land of the free
Who cares about me
